GREENSBURG – Dennis McKinney, Greensburg, announced today that he has filed for election to the Kansas House of Representatives in the 117 District.  The 117th House District, located in south central Kansas, covers all of Kiowa, Pawnee, Edwards, Hodgman, Ness, western Rush, eastern Ford and eastern Finney counties.

"Throughout my 20 years of public service I have developed a record of working across party lines, cooperating with leaders across the state to solve difficult problems and avoid gridlock.  My work has been guided by my goals to create good paying jobs, improve our schools, and reflect the values of my constituents. I also want to help increase investment in Rural Kansas.  Once people understand the quality of life we enjoy it will encourage others to live here."

As State Treasurer, McKinney returned more unclaimed property to Kansas taxpayers than any state treasurer in Kansas history. A fiscal conservative, he also cut his own salary and reduced his staff in 2009 as the state grappled with a massive budget deficit. McKinney was first elected to the Kansas Legislature in 1992 and was elected House Minority Leader in 2003.  Throughout his 16 years of service, McKinney achieved perfect attendance during all but three legislative sessions.  In total, he has missed less than five days of work at the Capitol.

McKinney serves on the Board of Trustees for Pratt Regional Medical Center and was a Kiowa County Commissioner from 1989-1992.  He attended Wichita State University to obtain both an undergraduate and Master’s degree.  A lifelong resident of Kiowa County, McKinney lives in Greensburg with his wife of 30 years, Jean, and their daughters, Kelly and Lindy.  He runs the family farm.

The 117th House District is an open seat. The 2014 Election will take place Nov. 6, 2014.
