ARCH CAPE, Ore. (KATU) – A 7-year-child passing away and a 4-year-old boy were swept out to sea with their father Witnesses said Jeremy Stiles, 47, of Portland, was holding his two children on the shore the beach was closed when a wave swept all three of them into the ocean.

An officer from the Manzanita Police Department arrived at the scene to find Stiles struggling to get out of the ocean while a girl was further out in the surf. The officer went in the water managed to get the 7-year-old back to shore. The girl was taken to Providence Seaside Hospital where she was later pronounced deceased. Stiles was also taken to the hospital; reports say he's expected to survive.
After searching the ocean for hours with helicopters, the U.S. Coast Guard suspended the search for the boy at sunset. Officials are asking the public to stay away from jetties and rocks during the dangerous surf conditions this weekend.

The National Weather Service issued a statement on beach hazards along the Oregon Coast through p.m. Sunday, saying people should watch out for possible sneaker waves.
Sneaker waves can run up on the beach, and lift or roll large logs, causing serious injury or death. 'All Beaches Have Closed Signs Don't Go To The Beach.' They said high tide may be “especially high” around 2 p.m. for the north coast and 1 p.m. for the central coast.
Meteorologists also warn of beach erosion that could destroy coastal properties and buildings.
