Company: Domino’s Pizza
Position: Manager of franchise store in Villas,
Lower Township
Adelia Jonas is living the American success
story.
She came to the United States from Brazil in 2001 when she was
invited by another former Brazilian to work in a Domino’s Pizza
store.
Less than a decade later, she is the U.S. Manager of the Year
for Domino’s Pizza. “I started as a customer service
representative, answering phones and making pizzas,” Jonas said. “I
learned to speak English at the store.”
She worked her way up to manager, where she met her husband,
Robert Jonas. He had started as a driver for Domino’s Pizza and
worked his way up through store manager, supervisor and then
inspector for the corporation.
“That’s how I met him, He was my inspector. We fell in love and
decided to keep our careers with Domino’s because this is what I
love to do and decided to franchise,” she said.
In 2008, they bought the Domino’s franchise in Villas and turned
it around, which led to her award, she said.
She said the corporate headquarters called to tell her she had
been selected as Northeast Manager of the Year and also for the
whole nation.
“I kept checking the Caller I.D. to make sure it was from the
corporation in Michigan and not a prank,” Jonas said.
She went to Las Vegas for the company’s 50th anniversary
convention on July 22, where she received the award and met
Domino’s founder Tom Monaghan.
“I met so many wonderful people who have the same dream,” she
said. “Many have called the store and become friends on Facebook,
and wanted me to share ideas about what I do.”
Jonas said the biggest challenge to managing is never giving up,
“just seeing this as my job and this is what I have to get
done.”
She said her own rise is an example of the opportunities for
advancement with the company.
“My goal right now is to make sure my store keeps running
properly,” she said. “I do have a dream to own more stores, but I
want to make sure all would be run the same way.”
