CANDACE CAMPOS
My life adventure currently has me
residing in the Pacific Northwest as the Chief Meteorologist of the #1
Station in Eugene Oregon, KVAL News. I love everything Western Oregon
has to offer from the coast to the Cascades. This little slice of
heaven, is truly America's best kept secret. Although I have fallen in
love with Oregon's beauty, I am still a tropical Florida gal at heart!
I
was born and raised in Miami, Florida where the Hispanic flavor is
everywhere along with year-long heat and humidity. Growing up in Miami,
you see all types of weather, especially Hurricanes. But one specific
storm changed my life forever. In 1992, Hurricane Andrew wiped out
everything around me, from my bedroom to my entire neighborhood. That
experience taught me many life lessons, but it also became that driving
force that has made me the Meteorologist I am today. That is when I
realized that my true calling was to inform, educate, empower viewers,
and be that calming factor in times of chaos.
I continued living in Miami, where I graduated Magnum Cum Laude from
Florida International University. I earned by Bachelors of Atmospheric
Science degree with a 3.75 GPA, and was inducted into the prestigious
Phi Beta Kappa Arts and Science Honor Society.
While
at FIU, I began working as the morning weather producer at WSVN Fox. I
spent the next 5 years learning, growing, and practicing the craft of
broadcasting weather while also becoming highly proficient in Weather
Central. From there I got married to my high school sweetheart, packed
up and moved out to the West Coast to keep following my dreams.
I don't know where my next stop on this adventure will be, but I am excited to see where the Wind takes me!
