TCU student Jazlyn Rodriguez Hernandez won a halftime contest at the Big 12 Championship — and got booed.Hernandez, 19, won $100,000 in the Dr Pepper Tuition Giveaway contest, and during the check presentation she thanked TCU. Oklahoma Sooners and Baylor Bears fans in the house took exception. And if we’re being honest, it was probably more Bears booing than Sooners.
“I feel so blessed,” she said holding the $100,000 check. “I want to thank my mom, my family, everyone at TCU … and everyone that I love and know!”
Her TCU spirit, however, caught the ear of fans at AT&T Stadium, and elicited a chorus of boos, most likely (we’re guessing) from Baylor Bears fans.
Hernandez, a freshman, handled it with laughter. She beat a male Big 12 student in the finals by tossing more footballs into an enlarged Dr Pepper can five yards away.
Hernandez wants to use the tuition prize to “pursue her dream of giving back to low-income families.”
