Beginning of the End: NFL Ratings Hit Rock Bottom, TV Networks Lose $500 Million Since Protests Began And The New NFL Commissioner Should Be Condoleezza Rice
Ratings and attendance for NFL games have continued to fall, and Week 11 was no exception.
Things have actually gotten very, very bad for the league.
The TV audience for NFL games steepened its slide in Week 11, losing 1 million viewers versus last year’s season-to-date average.Only two games in Week 11 saw audience gains.
The 6.3 percent slump — worsening from comparable declines of 5.6 to 5.7 percent during the previous three weeks — plagued a week whose off-the-field drama made gridiron tackling seem almost tame by comparison.
The Dallas Cowboys v. Philadelphia Eagles gained 12% more viewers than last year, while the New Orleans Saints v. Washington Redskins garnered 10% more viewers.
But the rest did not.
After starting 11.8 percent behind last year’s TV audience for NFL games in Week 1, league viewership had either held its own or narrowed the gap through Week 8.Now, TV networks have lost $500 million since the kneeling protests began.
The 6.3 percent shortfall in Week 11 reflects an average viewership of 14.9 million for the NFL’s 68 national telecasts this year versus 15.9 million for the season-to-date in 2016.
The 6.3% drop represents $500 million in potential lost revenue for CBS, ESPN, Fox and NBC, Outkick reported. In the past three weeks, viewership plummeted about 5.7%, which means the cratering is accelerating.
Millions of football fans have turned off their TV sets and canceled their game tickets to protest the NFL’s disrespect of the national anthem.
Unemployed quarterback Colin Kaepernick launched the protests in August 2016, when he hijacked football games by refusing to stand for the national anthem.
Other players have since joined the protest, which has caused irreparable damage to the NFL’s popularity and brand. Fans disgusted by the injection of liberal politics into their leisure time have now boycotted the league in droves.
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has continued to call out NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.
This past week, running back Marshawn Lynch further heightened tension by sitting for the “Star Spangled Banner” and standing for the Mexican anthem while his Oakland Raiders took on the New England Patriots in Mexico City.

way down.
President Donald Trump suggested Monday that the NFL should suspend the Oakland Raiders’ running back Marshawn Lynch for the rest of the season if he sits during the US national anthem again. From New York Post:
In a Sunday game played in Mexico City, Lynch took a seat a few measures into the “Star Spangled Banner,” but stood when Mexico’s anthem came on.
Trump tweeted on Monday morning that Lynch “sat down to boos,” and showed “great disrespect.”
“Next time NFL should suspend him for remainder of season. Attendance and ratings way down,” Trump concluded.
Raiders running back Marshawn Lynch sat during most of U.S. anthem and stood for the Mexican anthem before their game against the Patriots at Azteca Stadium in Mexico City.Lynch isn’t President Trump’s biggest fan, as evidenced by this t-shirt:
Lynch has not stood for the national anthem since returning from retirement this season.
There did not appear to be any other protests during the anthem as the afternoon games kicked off. Five NFL players protested during the national anthems before early games.
Lynch was recently kicked out of a game for pushing a referee.
From The Daily Caller:
After a play in which Raiders quarterback Derek Carr was on the receiving end of a late hit, players started shoving one another. Lynch, who was on the bench for the play, sprinted onto the field and into the scrum. As the referees were pulling players apart, Lynch could be seen shoving one of the officials.
The official threw a flag and ejected Lynch.

Facebook is paying millions for a reality show on the NFL's Marshawn Lynch
Facebook Inc (FB.N) is paying Time Warner Inc's (TWX.N) Bleacher Report millions of dollars for a reality show on NFL player Marshawn Lynch, the sports site told Reuters — a sign that the social media firm is willing to pay top dollar to lure viewers and ads to its Watch video service.
The reality show about the Oakland Raiders running back, called "No Script," launches at a time when Facebook and other web giants including Amazon.com Inc (AMZN.O) and Netflix Inc (NFLX.O) are spending billions on original content in a pitched battle for viewers. Facebook is planning to spend up to $1 billion on original shows, the Wall Street Journal reported.
Facebook did not respond to requests for comment on its spending.
Facebook's Watch was rolled out to U.S. users last month. The company has initially been paying for a handful of shows to attract viewers to the platform.
It has paid $10,000 to $35,000 for shorter-form shows and up to $250,000 for some longer-scripted shows, sources told Reuters in May.
"No Script" will start streaming this month and consists of eight 10- to 15-minute episodes featuring various antics by Lynch, who is returning to football as a running back for the Raiders.
Lynch, known as "Beast Mode" for his running prowess, has returned to the league this season after retiring in 2015 from the Seattle Seahawks, where he helped win Super Bowl XLVIII against the Denver Broncos in 2014.
The first episode features Lynch taking racecar driving lessons until he ruins the tires of the car.
In a deal similar to others, Facebook retains exclusive rights to the show for a period of time, Brown said, declining to elaborate on the exclusivity window. After that period Bleacher Report owns the content and can use it.
It was a big priority for Bleacher Report to keep the show authentic, given Lynch's raw style, Brown said.
For the most part Facebook gave Bleacher Report full creative control, however the social media network does have concerns about offensive language, Brown said.
"I wouldn't be shocked if that ends up being censored," he said.

She even posed for the squad calendar and was named Miss July in 2012.
But then the unthinkable happened: she suffered a devastating stroke when she was just 27 years old.
It happened when she was coming out of the shower a year ago.
She told INSIDE EDITION: “I felt dizzy. My arm went numb. I had an intense headache.”
She woke up in the ICU. Doctors told her family that the stroke had affected 60 percent of her brain.
Her father, David, was in a state of shock. Like most people, he associated strokes with elderly people.
He told INSIDE EDITION: “I said: ‘No, it's not a stroke. They made a mistake.’
“She never smoked. Never done drugs. Exercised all the time. She'd wear me out watching her exercise.”
Tessa is now undergoing grueling physical therapy and working tirelessly to walk and speak again.
She said: "I can say it in my brain but my words can't come out."
Her right arm is still partially paralyzed so she compensates with her left hand.

Her brother, James, is helping his sister relearn how to read. Math and numbers seem like a strange foreign language to her.
The Colts cheerleaders also threw a fundraiser in her honor and gave her their support.
"I'm getting better everyday," she said, smiling.

Former NFL cheerleader partially paralyzed after suffering stroke
Carrie Underwood ~ Sunday Night Football 2016 Intro
At age 28, a professional cheerleader and dancer’s life took an unexpected turn when she suffered a stroke that left her paralyzed on her right side.
“Everything went dizzy on me,” Tessa David told Fox59 of the incident, which happened Monday, Dec. 1, 2014. “My arm, I couldn’t feel it.”
Sixty percent of David’s brain was injured, and she is no longer able to read and understand numbers.
According to David’s GoFundMe page, she suffered a moderate-to-severe stroke in her sleep.
David, a former Indianapolis Colts cheerleader, had moved to Dallas to audition for the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders and held a spot on the squad for five years. She was featured on the team’s CMT reality show "Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders: Making The Team,” which documents the cheerleaders’ audition process.
David has undergone therapy in Texas, California, and her hometown of Bloomington, Indiana, and is showing progress, Fox59 reported.
“We’ve shown her videos of her right after her stroke to just show her … you couldn’t move, you couldn’t stand and now look at what you’re doing,” Erin Bell, David’s former teammate and current Colts cheerleader, told Fox59. “She suffered a very severe stroke, so it’s almost a miracle [she is improving].”
“I’m a fighter,” David told the news channel. “I will be a fighter.”
Before she returns to Texas, David will take part in the Colts Cheerleaders’ calendar release party on Friday. The team is donating a portion of the proceeds to support her recovery.
According to Fox59, David is working to spread awareness of how to identify when someone has suffered a stroke.
Adrian Peterson reinstated by the NFL
The NFL has reinstated running back Adrian Peterson, the league announced on Thursday. His reinstatement officially kicks in on Friday, at which point he can participate any scheduled activities with the team.
Peterson's stint on the exempt list essentially amount to a paid leave of absence, and he was indefinitely suspended by the league in November. During his appeal, Peterson successfully argued that the NFL had agreed in September to reinstate him when his legal issues had been resolved. However, he was placed back on the exempt list once the NFL decided to file an appeal.
In November, Peterson pleaded down to one misdemeanor count of reckless assault, which resulted in a $4,000 fine, 80 hours of community service and a requirement to enroll in parenting classes. The plea bargain opened the door for the former MVP to seek reinstatement by the NFL. When league officials declined to make a decision, the NFLPA filed an expedited, non-injury grievance on Peterson's behalf,
The controversy surrounding Peterson began in September when a grand jury in Montgomery County, Texas indicted the NFL star on felony charges of reckless or negligent injury to a child. The Vikings responded by deactivating Peterson for their Week 2 game against the New England Patriots. The team reinstated him the following Monday, leading to a storm of criticism from sponsors and even the governor of Minnesota. The Vikings eventually relented, placing Peterson on the commisioner's permission/exempt list with the help of the league.

work this year. The NFL star, who gained a lot of attention for his
decision to kneel during the national anthem at games, was awarded the
Eason Monroe Courageous Courage Award, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

“We must confront systematic oppression as a doctor would a disease. You identify it, you call it out, you treat and you defeat it. We all have an obligation no matter the risk and regardless of reward to stand up for fell men and women who are being oppressed with the understanding that human rights cannot be compromised. In the words of Frederick Douglas, ‘If there is no struggle, there is no progress,'" he said to a standing ovation from the crowd.

She said the prize money would take some weight off of her and her parents’ shoulders, and that it would “lessen the financial burden,” allowing her to concentrate on her studies.
“I just started crying, that’s all I could do,” Reyes said in a telephone interview via a video story on CBN News 8 with Matt Johnson.
She thanked the soft drink company for the opportunity to participate in the event then thanked her family and friends in both San Diego and Philippines for their support. Many on social media were so impressed with her passing skills that they called for Reyes to play quarterback for their favorite college football team.
