2016 Rose Queen Erika Winter is the 98th Rose Queen. She is an
18-year old Senior at Flintridge Preparatory School. The tryout process
for Rose Queen and Royal Court is broken down into a series of four
interviews. With each interview, participants are asked more questions
with the addition of time. In the first interview, participants are
given 15 seconds to say why they would like to be on the Royal Court.
After the initial interview sessions, approximately 250 participants
are invited back for a second round of interviews. From that group,
about 75 young women are asked to participate in the third round of
interviews. This year, 39 finalists participated in the fourth round of
interviews – from which the seven members of the 2016 Royal Court were
selected. The 2016 Royal Court was selected from more than 900
participants based upon a combination of qualities, including public
speaking ability, poise, academic achievement and community involvement.
In the months leading up the Rose Parade, the 2016 Rose Queen and Royal
Court will visit children’s hospitals, senior centers, schools, city
events and more. They will also visit Equestfest and Bandfest, which
highlights the equestrian and band units that will appear in the 127th
Rose Parade.
